"Bringing your treasured photographs back to life"

Wednesday 3 December 2014

Sometimes the most simple photograph taken on a cheap camera means so much more than one taken by a professional photographer.

Which is just the case with this old wedding snap. Unfortunately it got torn in two and someone had tried to repair it with sellotape.

My client wanted it repairing to give it as a Christmas present for  the couple, his parents, as he knew the sentimental value it held for his mother.

I repaired the tear, removed unwanted people and objects, adjusted the colour fade and added a mount to give it a more wedding theme.

Wonderful friendly service, the picture in question was restored after being ripped and also had a chair and a person who was also in the shot removed.

It has made a wonderful Xmas gift and I couldn't be any more happier with the work.

I love these old WW1 photographs and unfortunately many of the men pictured here fell during the conflict.

So, I take great pride in restoring photographs like this one. Because of their sacrifice 100 years ago, you and I are here to day.

I am not a great lover of coloring black and white photographs.

So when a regular client came to me and asked if I could colour these two photographs for her I wasn't looking forward to the task.

However, in all honesty. I am very pleased with the result.

This service was absolutely brilliant. My photos were so damaged and torn I did not think that I could bring them back to life.

However, Altered Images have magically restored my photos and you can not tell one single bit that the originals were so poor.

I would recommend altered images to anyone that needs their photos restored. We would just like to say a massive thank you

This is one of several old postcards sent to me from a lady in York.
The postcards are part of her local history collection and had seen better days.

This one of the Vicarage at Healaugh had become tinted with a blue cast. Probably caused by the make up of the ink that has degraded over the year.

When this client contacted me about doing this fantasy photograph for her brother's 50 birthday. I didn't know what to expect when the photograph arrived.

His young man had entered a fancy dress competition whilst on holiday with his parents and his sisters. Unfortunately he didn't win and sulked for the rest of the holiday. So he was called the incredible sulk and the nick name stuck with him for many years  to come.

Fortunately, he saw the funny side of it and all the family and friends had a good laugh at the party.

These two photographs are over 100 years old. They were sent to me by my mother's cousin in two Victorian Photograph Albums which have been passed down the family over the generations.

As you can see in the before photographs that even though they have been stored in an album they have suffered the passage of time.

Ian wanted me to scan the images and restore where necessary and copy all the finished photographs onto disc. So that he could distribute them to all the family and preserve our family history for future generations.

I love doing these fantasy photographs. This was done for my clients husbands birthday, as a surprise.

I believe he had always wanted to play for Man Utd. But I feel he wasn't up to their standard, so he will have to do with this.

At least he can pretend to the grand children whilst they are young. "See I told you I played for Utd, here's a photo"

I  hope he enjoyed it on his birthday and continues to get enjoyment from it for many tears to come. Happy Birthday Mr. Fielding.

Not all photo restoration is about repairing missing areas or removing blemishes.

It also entails restoring colour to faded photographs, as with this lovely 1980's wedding photo.

Due to exposure to sun light and the elements this cherished photo as lost most of its colour and looks a little pale.

With modern digital technology and help from the human eye, the colour has been restored to its original state.

Together with advances in photograph printing this is guaranteed fade resistant for 150 years.

I wont be around then but I hope the photograph still is.

Just finished a lovely restoration project of 9 photographs of a local sporting legend Kid Lees.
Oldham born Kid was a professional boxer from 1919-1937.

As you can see from the photographs they were all badly damaged. They all had corners missing and were badly creased. There was also a lot of surface dirt, from years of being handled which I was able to remove prior to scanning.

Then with some TLC and a lot of patience I was able to retouch the photographs and repair the damaged areas.

Today I have been busy with 6 photo restorations for this client who wanted them all the same size in order that the can all be framed and placed on display. I have posted two of them.

The first, a quick retouch around the feet where the emulsion had peeled away and a touch up here and there to remove small creases and blemishes. Plus converting it to a Black and White print.

The sharp eyed, will also see that I have stretched the background in order to make the photo fit into a modern frame.

The second, a lovely mother and daughter picture. Which had suffered some fading over the years as well as some wear and tear.

Again the creases and blemishes were retouched out and then the faded areas darkened to match the rest of the image.

The photos I had copied and enlarged were over 50 years old and I was very pleased with the outcome as were the rest of my family.

Our treasured family photos have been preserved and we can now display and enjoy them. David delivered them to my home.

I would highly recommend David."

When I saw this photograph of my new grand nephew I just had to do something about that frown. Apparently he had been smiling or was it wind, as the shutter clicked.

This is an all to common problem, you line up the shot and it changes the second you press the button. Sometimes you get a second chance. But if not I can always help out.

Anyway using the newish feature in Photoshop 'puppet warp'. A quick tweak put the smile back on his face.

I came across this photograph on Facebook- Royton in Pictures.

I have done a photo restoration on it pure and simply because it was damaged and someone had taken the time to post it on Facebook for others to enjoy.

Unfortunately photographs become damaged and then get thrown away and are then lost for ever.

I restore photographs because I believe in preserving our heritage and our history through photographs.

This 1950's photo of workmen working on the new council houses in Royton, Lancashire. is a typical example. Hopefully now it will last till eternity.

This is a photograph of the new Man City striker for 2024. Or at the moment better known as my grand nephew.

The photo was taken on the weekend before at a soccer tournament where his young man scored 6 goals in 4 games to help his team win the Cup. Unfortunately several people managed to get in the background and spoil the shot.

So with the help of Uncle David and Photoshop the disappeared as if by magic.

This photograph is a photograph of this clients late husband. Unfortunately it has been sat in the sun for 20+ years and has faded badly.

Plus to add insult to injury, when trying to remove it from the frame, the surface stuck to the glass and started to peel off.

Luckily both problems are fixable and the photo restoration is complete.

The picture is now back on display, but no longer in direct sunlight.

This client brought me this lovely photo of herself and her father. She had taken it from an old picture frame and putting into a new one to give to her father as a present.

Unfortunately the photograph had become damp sometime and the paper had stuck to the glass, and on removing it had left the white spots you can see on the left hand image.

I was asked if I could repair the damage. To which I replied "No problem".

Any chance you could remove the bottle of coke as well.

As you can see, I did more than that I removed all the glasses as well.

I had the honor this week to be asked if I could restore this world war 1 photograph of PC 263D Albert Longworth, who was a mounted police officer with the old Manchester City Police Force.

Albert enlisted into the Mounted Military Police on 30th March 1915.

He returned to the force on the 18th May 1918, and continued to serve until 24th July 1937 when he retired. His medals are held at the RMP Museum.

As you can see the photograph was badly creased and the surface had flacked off in places. The original photograph was only 5.5" x 3.3" and scanned at 2400 dpi. I was asked if I could also enlarge the image as it was going to be used in a display. I increased the size to 15" x 9" this allowed the image to be printed at over 6ft high.

It also resulted in the minute dust spots looking like peas.

But the end result was well worth the effort. I'm pleased that I was able bring PC 263D's photograph back to its full glory.

This lovely old baby photograph is over 90 years old and shows my clients mother at a couple of weeks old.

The original was suffering badly with areas missing and numerous cracks and creases across the surface.

I repaired the blemishes and restored the missing areas. I also increased the height of the back of the seat so the photograph would fit into a modern photo frame.

I also added a new dress, using a royalty fee image. This brought some much needed detail to the area that was missing from the original.
